LOT 17 UNDYED SELVEDGE TWILL PAINTER PANTS

 With Spring on the horizon, we’ve added a new style to the Dawson ranks - our new Painter Pant.

Made by hand in our Brighton workshop, our Painter Pants are informed by a range of iconic workwear pants from the Bib and Brace pants from the 1920s and 30s, to their evolved multi-pocket counterparts (known colloquially as Painter or Carpenter pants) that set the pace for future workwear trousers in the middle of the 20th Century.

Like most workwear, these ‘painter’ and ‘carpenter’ styles were thrust into the fashion zeitgeist after being adopted by a subculture. The early 1970s saw a boom in outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and notably rock climbing. California, specifically Yosemite National Park, became the hotspot for groups of free-spirited climbers, like the infamous Stonemasters, who brought a new sartorial flavour to the world of rock climbing informed by the bohemian customs of the Hippie movement.

We took inspiration from the different facets of the history of this style to create what we believe to be the optimum multi-pocket work pant.

Our Painter Pant is a wide-legged silhouette with a slight taper from the knee down for articulation, a total of 7 pockets and a hammer loop for functionality and style, and a donut button fly with Dawson snap waist button. Dropping just in time to refresh your wardrobe before the Spring Equinox, they’re available in 3 of our proprietary fabrics that pair perfectly with this utilitarian style. This rendition in our 10oz undyed selvedge twill is made and ready to go.
